Should there be a dress code for college students? Here are 6 reasons why:

A LONG YET AN INTERESTING AND A SENSIBLE ANSWER AHEAD!
Before I answer this question, let us see how people dress up for various occasions or places they visit -
  1. To places of worship -
2. Now, this is how people attend cool parties and discos-
3. Look at how gorgeously these celebrities get decked up for red-carpet events :
Priyanka Chopra never fails to constantly experiment with her mind blowing appearances. Precisely, she is a slay queen!
But wait, I don't see her like this all the time. Do I?
Why is she dressed up this way now? So simple and way too casual! Oh wait…That's because she was travelling and not attending some MetGala event.
4. This is how we attend celebrations like weddings, baby showers etc -
You can't go to a high-end wedding in your sweats just because there is no dress code. I mean, you can, if you want to, but don't blame me for all the weird looks you receive from the other guests.
Remember how Monica forces Joey to change into something decent and sane enough for her wedding? Lol!
Anything that doesn't say ‘I died tragically in France.’
5. Wait. How can I forget the most wonderful moments of high school? Yes. The prom-Do you know any one guy/girl who's gone to a prom with their nightclothes on and heard them say - I wore this cause I feel comfortable?
6. Schools have uniforms -
As the name suggests, uniforms were introduced to serve the purpose of providing regularity and sensible clothing. They also help distinguishing one institution from another. One more reason is to avoid discrimination. A school is a place of learning. It's a temple of knowledge. Students are equal here. No student must be discriminated based on their caste, creed, and monetary status.
If this applies to school, why not for college. I think, as grown-ups, college going students shouldn't be instructed to wear uniforms and all. But a dress code? Yes, it is necessary.
It is true that one must wear whatever they feel comfortable in, but that doesn't mean you can go to an interview or a meeting in your shorts..
I don't mean colleges should come up with stringent dress codes for students. I personally know a few institutions where girls are forced to come in Chudidhars with shawls covering their arms and chests, with the kurti reaching below their knees. Infact these rules are quite stupid and baseless. When discipline reaches the heights of insanity, it turns into nothing but sheer stupidity.
Iam thankful that I study in a college that allows people to wear any kind of clothing they want. Everything is acceptable. However, there are a few unwritten rules. If you wear something that outrageously denies that you have come to college for studying, then you would get death stares from people for sure.
Something like this is unacceptable -
We troll these movies for portraying students like this right? Then why can't we agree with the fact that even college officials find these sort of things disgusting?
My take on dress code in colleges-
  1. Students need to realize that they come to a college to study. After your college hours, change into anything you want. Go anywhere you want to. No one cares. But in college maintain formality in your clothing. By that I mean, being traditional, in no way proves that you are being formal.
  2. Wear clothing that you are happy and comfortable in. Don't get carried away by those skin tight skirts or breath - masking shirts and baggy jeans(for guys)
Dear Principals / Deans -
3. Yes there are many people and outsiders spreading worthless talk about your college. They may tell your students are “indecent’’ and spoilt. Please don't force your students to wear something that they never thought of wearing for college. That will just detoriate their interest in attending their classes.
4.Instead realize the ‘actual causes’ that hinder your college reputation. Get the labs renovated. Improve co-circular learning. Hire professional faculty. Encourage student - run clubs. Improve the quality of your education curriculum. That will automatically make your institution more popular and better. Your students are not school going kids anymore. They are adults. They attend your college to learn and get a degree not to compromise at each and every petty level. They are not to be dictated upon. No, please don't exert your powers for superficial reasons.
“The more you hinder youth from being themselves, the greater they rebel against you.’’
Finally dress according to the situation. A college is a place to learn, explore and grow. Be smart. Dress up smart. Keep your looks outdoorish and modest enough :)

What made you happy today? A real life experience

I stepped out of my hostel to go home for the weekend. It was the peak time for traffic in Chennai and every cab in the corner was occupied. And I have to travel for around 2.5 hours to reach my home. Having no other choice, I reluctantly stepped into an MTC bus that was so overcrowded. While I was standing, I noticed an elderly woman, around her early fifties maybe, getting into the bus and walking towards a seat. She looked at a little boy sitting there (he must be just around thirteen years) and ordered - Lady-“Hey kiddo, can you please give me your seat. Look at me, I am an old lady, I literally can't stand. Just stand for sometime, you're young enough.” (Read more)

7 Reasons why Preeti is special in Arjun Reddy

As any other girl who knows her worth, I felt the same in the beginning. I was like - “What's so special in this movie where a male protagonist was just being over-glorified?” Then idk why I thought of watching it again. After having it watched like for 4 to 5 times in just 1 month, I noticed a couple of scenes that seemed so wrong in the beginning, but they seemed to have convinced me in the director's point of view.
