7 Reasons why Preeti Shetty is equally heroic in Arjun Reddy

Here's to Preeti Shetty- one of the most meaningful yet underrated character in Arjun Reddy!

As any other girl who knows her worth, I felt the same in the beginning. I was like - “What's so special in this movie where a male protagonist was just being over-glorified?” Then idk why I thought of watching it again. After having it watched like for 4 to 5 times in just 1 month, I noticed a couple of scenes that seemed so wrong in the beginning, but they seemed to have convinced me in the director's point of view.

1.       Preeti and Arjun could communicate through just eye contact. That was how subtly it was portrayed. Arjun knows for everything he does, it was only Preeti who can understand him completely. She can only devote complete trust and confidence in his actions. And so did he. This was their level of understanding.

2.       Also when Arjun yells at her, she slaps him furiously reminding him that he needs to understand what she's going through.

3.       Preeti seems to be portrayed as someone so meek, but when she misses him, she travels all the way to Mussoorie, just to catch a glimpse of him.

4.       She was bold enough when her parents confronted her affair with Arjun after reading their emails.

5.       When she thought Arjun didn't care enough to stop her wedding, she realized her self esteem and she was untouched by all the efforts Arjun makes after she gets married. She doesn't just ‘pup’ around him anymore.

6.       When they meet after nine months, Preeti agrees to start her life with him, only after she comes to know what all Arjun has faced. She was married, but didn't allow her husband to touch her, she chose to struggle alone with confidence, she gets pregnant, she remains unfazed by all the hindrances, and in the end, she deserves that happy ending more than anyone else.

7.       In general, after the first watch, people may believe that it was Arjun who lost his life and career, infused with drugs after he loses Preeti. But the real struggle and the bravery with which she fought every battle was Preeti. From cruel parents to being a pregnant and living all alone, Preeti proves to be the hero of this story. But due to cliché in Indian cinema, the director chose to display how only Arjun fought everything and conquered love in the ending, whereas Preeti's life during the nine months was just explained in the climax with 3-4 dialogues :(

What made you happy today? A real life experience

I stepped out of my hostel to go home for the weekend. It was the peak time for traffic in Chennai and every cab in the corner was occupied. And I have to travel for around 2.5 hours to reach my home. Having no other choice, I reluctantly stepped into an MTC bus that was so overcrowded. While I was standing, I noticed an elderly woman, around her early fifties maybe, getting into the bus and walking towards a seat. She looked at a little boy sitting there (he must be just around thirteen years) and ordered - Lady-“Hey kiddo, can you please give me your seat. Look at me, I am an old lady, I literally can't stand. Just stand for sometime, you're young enough.” (Read more)
